In FS2, reading is at the heart of all that we do. The children benefit from daily story sessions led by different adults. Book are available in all areas of provision, for children to share, refer to and learn from. Each half term the classes have an author focus, stories from this author are shared throughout the half term. Children vote daily for a story that they would like to share as a class, picking from two options, this supports them to experience democracy first hand. During weekly Talk 4 Writing sessions, the children become familiar with a key text, focusing in depth on the characters, events and key language while learning the text by heart using a story map. Traditional tales are given high priority in FS2, with story shelves and activities planned by adults to enhance provision for children to independently access during Free Flow Sessions.
