Physical Development

An active mind cannot exist in an inactive body. - George S Patton

At St.Petroc's school we hold physical activity with high importance. Evidence suggests that being physically active in the early years can support brain development, help develop social skills and develop emotional wellbeing. Children in FS2 take part in a weekly PE session which focuses on the fundamental movement skills, dance and gymnastics. During free flow sessions, children have access to sports equipment, a large climbing frame, balance bikes and trikes and large construction items to develop gross motor skills. Finger gym challenges are planned for in provision weekly, a malleable area and construction area all support the development of fine motor skills and finger dexterity which supports the skill of writing.
