Phonics

Today a reader, tomorrow a leader. - Margaret Fuller

Children in FS2 learn to read through the Read Write Inc scheme. Children take part in daily RWI sessions during which they are taught to read in a systematic way. They are initially taught the Set One sounds, focusing on single letter sounds first. Once children have learnt the first set of sounds, they begin to learn blending skills though 'Fred Talk'. As the children's skills develop they move on to reading story books in their RWI sessions, which are matched to the level that they are working at. Children are assessed each half term and regrouped accordingly, allowing for new learning to be appropriately pitched to provide suitable challenge.
