Writing is the painting of the voice - Voltaire

In FS2, the process of writing is first taught through developing gross and fine motor skills through activities such as dough disco, finger gym activities and ribbon work. Staff model writing at every opportunity, showing children writing for a purpose and breaking down the skills needed. Handwriting is taught using the Read Write Inc mnemonics, supporting children with a rhyme to know where to begin and finish their letters. The use of Talk 4 Writing teaches children in a fun and motivating way, using stories as a hook to base writing activities around while drawing on the rich language of well know stories. Throughout the year, children are taught how to write labels, lists, captions, simple sentences, speech bubbles, instructions and stories.
