Understanding the World

People must feel that the natural world is important and valuable and beautiful and wonderful and an amazement and a pleasure. - David Attenborough

Staff in FS2 support children to make sense of the world around them, thinking about their physical world and the community that they belong to. Children are provided with opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology, and the environment. Children are encouraged to use their senses to explore and investigate to answer questions that they may have and to work out how and why things happen. Stories and events are used to teach children about the past and to recognise change over time. Staff support the children to recognise how other people are similar and different to themselves and to respect and celebrate these differences.
